LARGEST ATTENDED EVENT SINCE THE PANDEMIC
BORREGO SPRINGS RUN
The response on our sign-up sheet was 34 lunches and 24 cars. In addition, we had cars that did not want lunch attend and Gilbert Peet came to show us his new C8. Bill Betts and his C8 was part of the run.
We met in Alpine taking Tavern Road thru the two-lane country road with limited traffic staying away from the freeways and enjoying the scenic hills of San Diego County. We went past Lake Cuyamaca to Julian. For some of us Banner Grade was wide open and had a blast going down. Others followed slower traffic down, making some of these passengers happy! At the bottom we regrouped and off to the restroom break just past scissors crossing. From there we viewed the off-road metal statues between the Casa Del Zorro and Christmas Circle.
We ventured past Christmas Circle to the large serpent. We went off roading into the desert to get a close-up view of the sculpture. That made one member with a black car not happy! One got into some soft sand and needed assistance to get out. No problem, plenty of assistance available.
“Off Road Anyone!!”
We stopped at Pablito’s for a Mexican lunch. Although the service was on the slow side, no one complained as it was the first time in a long time that we as a group had the enjoyment of each other’s company. We enjoyed the selection of three combination lunches with beans, rice. salad and a soft drink.
After lunch Gail Carson took over the lead car. She likes curves, and Montezuma Valley Road gave her plenty of enjoyment. We ended the run in Ramona where we stopped at Cheers for final refreshments and time to relax after a long day on the road.
