Six members of the COCSD Racing Team were joined by four from the Corvettes of San Diego at a track day at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on Saturday, November 8. Lisa DiSabatino, Craig Moya, Randy Standke, Bob Swanson and Jeff Wilkinson also stuck around for the second track day on Sunday, while Gilbert Peet returned home on Saturday night so he could participate in the Vettes for Veterans car show on Sunday. That alone should have earned him a car show award.
Auto Club Speedway is the fastest course the Team visits, with top speeds at the end of the front straight approaching 150 mph. Speeds through the high-banked first and second turns are over 125 mph. Randy set the new club record for the track with a blistering lap of 1 minute, 52.3 seconds. Craig was far behind in second at 2:00.5, but it still was a personal best for him on the 2.9-mile course. Jeff ran a 2:02.8. Lisa’s best lap for the weekend was a 2:03.6. Bob raced Kathleen’s 2002 BMW and posted a best of 2:20.5. Gilbert chose not to rent a transponder, so he had no official lap time. But he sure had fun!
Join the Racing Team for the next track day at Streets of Willow Springs on Sunday, Dec. 14. It is a great first-timer track that’s also challenging for experienced racers.
