In 1997, members of COCSD watched “Super Speedway”, an IMAX movie that followed the Newman-Haas (Andretti) racing team from the preparation for, and the participation in the 1996 IndyCar racing season. It was a terrific movie that also chronicled the discovery of, and the restoration of Mario Andretti’s first Indy racer, a front-engined roadster.
In 2019, we gathered to watch “Ford vs. Ferrari”, the somewhat dramatized story of Ford hiring racer Carroll Shelby to build a race car that would beat Ferrari at LeMans in the 1960s.
This year, another racing-themed movie is being released, and COCSD will be there on opening night!
Brad Pitt has been filming a movie about the international Formula 1 racing series, and it is finally due for release on Friday, June 27. Although it is a fictional story, many of the racing scenes were filmed during actual F1 races. There has been a great deal of “buzz” in the racing community about the movie. Mr. Pitt plays a retired F1 driver who comes out of retirement to meet one last challenge. He is also one of the producers, along with several others, including 7-time (really 8) F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton. “F1” movie trailer
Help continue the tradition by joining the group as we view the movie in all its IMAX glory on Friday, June 27 at 7 pm at the Regal Parkway Plaza theater (405 Parkway Plaza in El Cajon). This link should get you there: “F1 the movie” tickets
Please let me know when you purchase your tickets and which seats you chose. I’ll post them here, so we can keep track of who is attending. Also let me know if you would like to join us for dinner before the movie at a restaurant nearby.
