We’re planning something different for our next “K1 Speed Saturday”.

If you’ve joined us for the past couple of K1 Speed Saturdays, you know the problem we’ve been facing. They have been packed on Saturday, starting late morning and into the evening. Consequently, we have not been able to run in our exclusive group. The first session is generally not a problem. But the last two have been a disaster. The run groups are as large as 12 racers, and if there are just five or six of us, we end up on the track with several others, including first-timers. It isn’t pretty.

A tentative reservation for a “mini-Grand Prix” has been made for 11 am on Saturday, June 12. It’s the same format we used for the COCSD vs. SDMC challenges we’ve done. We get one 12-lap qualifying session, with everyone trying to run their best lap time. Then we get a 14-lap race for position, with everyone gridded up based upon their fastest lap time in the qualifying session. It’s normally a standing start, but we’ll ask them to let us do a rolling start instead. The advantage is these two sessions will be exclusive to our group only. The downside is, it will be $45. You cannot use credit or saved races to pay for it.

It is set 11, so we can still get there at 10 and run a “practice” arrive and drive session. That part is optional. If you want to do that first session, you need to be there at 10. We won’t wait for latecomers. If you wish to wait for the MGP, you MUST be there by 10:45.

WE MUST HAVE AT LEAST 8 RACERS TO RUN THE MINI-GRAND PRIX.  If you wish to participate, you must make a commitment no later than Monday, May 10.  It is far enough in the future to allow many racers to plan for it. If we get more than 12, we’ll divide into two groups, like we did for the challenges.  To participate, contact Craig cjm01awt@gmail.com.
