The Las Vegas Region, Porsche Club of America is planning another track day weekend at Spring Mountain on May 18 and 19, and COCSD will be there!
Although this event is put on by a Porsche club, it is open to all makes of cars. A lot of Corvette owners attend. More information about their program can be found at http://lvs.pca.org/drivered.htm
The Porsche Club runs the safest and best organized track events in which we have participated. The Spring Mountain facility is first-class, with one of the best tracks we’ve driven. We will be running the new Charleston Peak North full course. There is an excellent turn-by-turn video of the course on YouTube: Charleston Peak North
There will be student, novice, intermediate and advanced run groups on Saturday and Sunday. Students will get classroom and skidpad instruction on Saturday and will run on the track with an instructor on Saturday afternoon and all day on Sunday. The student and novice groups will be combined on Sunday afternoon.
The cost for Saturday and Sunday will be $525. That includes the instruction that all first-time students will receive. However, the LVR PCA offers us a discount, if we reach a minimum threshold of registrants. If we have at least 5 paid registrants from our San Diego group (COCSD and Corvettes & Coffee SD), a $50 refund will be credited to each registrant’s card shortly after the event. If we get at least 10 paid registrants, the refund is $75.
THIS EVENT WILL SELL OUT, so do not wait!! Register Here!
Please note that the PCA now requires ALL participants to have their vehicle inspected by an approved shop within 30 days of the event. The approved shops in the San Diego area include Caliber Auto Repair in El Cajon and JBA Speed Shop in Kearny Mesa. The estimated cost of the inspection is $60. Here is the checklist.
Lunches will be available on Saturday and Sunday for $20 each day. You can order them when you register. Last May, we did a potluck dinner on Friday night. We may do the same this time.
Because Pahrump is 320 miles from San Diego, we typically drive up on Friday morning. And to avoid Sunday evening traffic from Las Vegas, many stay in town (or drive over the mountain to Las Vegas) Sunday night and drive home on Monday. State Route 127 from Baker to South of Shoshone was badly damaged last year, but it is open, with some continuing construction.
We recommend participants reserve a cottage at Wine Ridge RV Resort & Cottages https://wineridgervresort.com/ for Friday through Sunday night (Monday checkout). The cost and other details will be determined. They offer AAA members a discount. If you prefer a hotel, two options are the Best Western, and the Holiday Inn Express.
